A QR code is just packaging for two values: the address of the server the profile comes from, and the code that proves the profile is yours. If you cannot scan, you can type both in.
Where the values are
In the order confirmation email and in your account, underneath the QR code:
- the SM-DP+ address, which looks like a web address,
- the activation code, a string of letters and digits with hyphens.
iPhone
Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Enter Details Manually. Type in the address and code, then confirm.
Android
In the add eSIM flow choose the manual entry option. On some phones it hides behind "Need help?" or "Enter code manually".
When this helps
- You only have one screen, so there is nothing to scan from.
- The camera is damaged.
- The QR image is blurry after the email was forwarded.
One thing to watch
Copy the code exactly, hyphens and capitals included. When a phone rejects a code it is usually a zero mistaken for the letter O, or a one mistaken for the letter I.
